Little North Road (2009–2014) is a project by Daniel Traub that examines a pedestrian bridge in Guangzhou, once a symbolic gateway between Africa and China. The bridge served as a meeting point for diverse communities, reflecting the complex interactions and exchanges that characterize the area.

At the heart of the project is an extensive archive compiled by Traub, featuring the work of two Chinese itinerant photographers, Wu Yongfu and Zeng Xianfang. For years, these photographers sustained themselves by creating portraits of African traders, migrants, and other visitors seeking mementos of their time in China. The archive comprises thousands of these vernacular images, offering a unique glimpse into the aspirations and daily lives of those navigating this dynamic crossroads.

Alongside assembling this archive, Traub contributed his own photographs, documenting the bridge and its surroundings. His images provide context for the portraits, capturing the architecture, activity, and cultural flows of the area. Together, the archive and Traub’s photographs form a layered exploration of the bridge as a site of migration, connection, and transformation.
