Chinese Takeouts2008–2009
Made with a large-format camera in 2008 and 2009, alongside North Philadelphia, these photographs look at two kinds of place that recur on the neighborhood’s streets.
The lots are what remains where rowhouses have come down: narrow gaps between party walls, slowly taken back by trees, grass and weeds. The takeouts are the businesses that stayed, or arrived, as others left: small Chinese restaurants, run by immigrant families, set behind security glass on corners across North Philadelphia.
